Dean Willingham stopped his normal baiting approach and plumped for single hookbaits at Essex’s tricky Snake Pit and was rewarded with this peach of a mirror.
The 36lb 6oz fish, known as Stomper’s Lin, was caught along with another linear of 22lb during a a 36-hour session at the historic venue.
The 29-year-old roofer said: “I'd been baiting with 50 to 100 baits per trip but on this occasion single hookbaits positioned in the silt did the bites.
“It’s been a hard 12 months for everyone on Snake, with bites few and far between, but I’ve had a good year and I’m really pleased with my results. Rather than pulling off and moving on to an easier venue for the winter, I decided to stick at it in the hope of bagging one of these special old carp.”
Dean presented Sticky Vor-Text pop-ups on hinged stiff rigs.
