Port Vale footballer banks 44lb mirror carp

From Gazza to Sergio Aguero, via David Seaman and Tony Hibbert, there has long been a tradition of fishing footballers, but few have fish like this to their name.

Young Port Vale midfielder Ryan Lloyd caught ‘Kev’s Linear’ from Oxfordshire’s Linch Hill complex at 44lb 2oz.

The 20-year-old, who made his full debut in League One over the Easter weekend, has an angling pedigree to match his footballing skills and headed south for a three-night session on Stoneacres at the end of his season.

He said: “I found a small gravel area surrounded by 4ft of weed at 120 yards and spread 4kg of 16mm and 20mm Sticky Vor-Tex boilies across the spot.”

Ryan, from Biddulph in Staffordshire, coated his free offerings in L-Zero-30 liquid and Krill powder, and presented a matching Vor-Tex pop-up over the top.

Explaining his rig, Ryan added: “The pop-ups were fished on a hinged stiff rig using an Albright knot to attach the one-inch Korda Mouth Trap chod section to an N-Trap soft boom section. I used a large amount of putty fixed to the knot to balance the chod section perfectly.”

Ryan’s rigs also included size 5 ACE Chod hooks and 5oz leads.
