A recent session on a Yorkshire club water resulted in a fantastic bream for angler, Darren Starkey, where he went on to land a fish of 14lb, which is also a new PB for him. After catching numerous fish of 13lb from other waters in the area, Darren was looking to improve on these already impressive fish and he didn't have to wait long as his first session of the year saw him achieve his goal.

"I’ve had a couple of 13’s from different waters in Yorkshire before, but this is my first 14. It was my first bream/tench session of the spring and I was overjoyed to see the fish go into the net," he told us.

Darren arrived at the lake he knows quite well and headed to a spot he has caught bream from before...

"I was fishing to a bar at around 65m where I have caught bream before, it has a good depth of around 10ft which I felt was just right in the unpredictable weather conditions I was faced with."

"I decided to give the fish some bait and proceeded to put out a big bed of Dynamite hemp and 2/3mm halibut pellets with 12mm Complex T boilies and red maggots."

"The idea being, there would be lots of different sized food items tokeep a shoal of hungry bream in the area, allowing the larger fish to gain confidence so I could potentially catch one," he explained.

Well the theory paid off in style for the DS Angling guide, who had another double figure fish in the same session.
