Catch A Big Zander At Surrey's Bury Hill

Bury Hill Fishery is rapidly building a reputation as possibly the nation’s finest predator venues after a recent netting operation on the venue’s Milton Pool revealed a monster 17lb 3oz zander along with around 50 other fish to double-figures.

The fish were moved into Old Lake, a water already containing some huge pike and zeds making it a mouth-watering prospect for those looking to land either their first zander this winter, or perhaps a personal best.

Over the past two weeks there has been plenty of fish in the 5-10lb bracket being landed on small chunks of deadbaits as well as pike to 20lb on lure or sea deads. The lake itself is 12-acres and full of features both underwater and visibly and oxygenated water is continuously but covertly pumped into the lake to improve fishing. Depths vary according to where you are on the water but the deepest parts touch 10ft and these can be found close to the boathouse (around pegs 10-26). These are where the fish like to feed in winter so are pegs which are worth bearing in mind when on the hunt for predators. That said the Jungle section provides fish with plenty of cover including masses of tree roots, making it another area to consider and anglers are given the option of fishing in this area by boat in a three berth punt.

The lake isn’t just about predators either there are also some huge crucians which will start to show when the weather begins to warm up. Of course there is also the huge head of carp which run to over 30lb not to mention the huge bags of big bream and tench which feature in summer, making this lake one of the best day-ticket lakes in the country. Away from Old Lake, those looking for specimen roach wouldn’t go far wrong by paying a visit to Bonds Lake. A recent survey of this lake revealed some monster redfins touching 3lb
