Country's biggest carp dies

One of the country’s biggest carp, The Fat Lady, from the St Ives Lagoon in Cambridgeshire, has been found dead.

At her peak the fish topped the 60lb barrier and was regularly caught around the upper-fifty pound mark.

The exact cause of her death is not yet known, although it is believed she had failed to spawn this year and this may have been a factor.

Following the death of the British record carp, Two Tone, in 2010, The Fat Lady became one of the most sought after carp in the country.

Over the years the impressive specimen graced the net of many of the UK’s high profile anglers including Terry Hearn, Dave Lane, Paul Gardner, Gordon Howes, Kev Wilson and Darrell Peck.
