Angler lands 111lb of silvers in match

Messingham Sands proved why it has gained itself a reputation as one of the best mixed venues in the country when Andy Whitehouse managed to land a staggering 111lb 11oz of silverfish during the latest event.

With the carp in a finicky mood due to spawning, the Scunthorpe ace decided to fish a light rig up in the water with meat from peg 45 on Islands Lake and was rewarded with skimmers to 1lb. Several chunky tench and perch also made an appearance on the margin line to bolster his weight.

There was tension at the weigh in, and the scales revealed the catch was good enough to take the runners up spot, with Simon Drayton landing on a shoal of feeding mirrors and commons and extracting a winning 122lb.
