Just 10 days is all it took for Carl Milton to bag three forties in a trio of successful sessions.
The run of form at Kent’s Strawberry Fields began on May Day with the capture of ‘Two Tone’ at 45lb 8oz and was followed up with ‘Nick’ at 44lb and ‘Cut Tail’ at 40lb.
Said Carl: “Catching three forties so close together hasn’t quite sunk in yet. I set myself a target of a UK 40lb-plus common for the year, having been lucky enough to catch a 48lb 8oz UK mirror last year.
“I’ve got to know the venue and a spell of conditions came along that look perfect for a big fish, and as luck would have it I booked some holiday from work that coincided with this period.
“The first two forties were the two mirrors, interspersed with some smaller fish. These were fantastic to catch and I was over the moon, but I still wanted a big common. However, I knew the good weather was coming to an end. On the final evening of the good conditions I had another run. Mid-fight the fish rolled and I saw it was a common. My heart rate went through the roof but I managed to hold my nerve and net the fish. I had achieved my goal! The smile hasn’t disappeared since.”
Physiotherapist Carl used simple inline running rigs and mono hooklinks during a total of 96 hours on the bank spread over the three sessions.
The 32-year-old, who used BCG 94 boilies from UK Bait Company, also caught a 28lb koi common and two 19lb mirror carp.
