‘A mind-blowing session’ is how Dan Stacey described banking three thirties and this fifty.
The Greys-backed angler took advantage of an empty Cambridgeshire water to catch the 52lb 2oz mirror along with others of 33lb 6oz, 31lb 10oz and 30lb 6oz.
Dan told Angling Times: “I got down the lake on Monday morning to find it completely empty. After a good walk in the pouring rain I finally found the fish near a weed bed next to some reeds in really shallow water. It was only a short cast of 40 yards, just short of the weed in 6ft of water on a harder bottom.”
Having fed an initial 3kg of CC Moore Equinox boilies, Dan was rewarded with the big mirror soon after.
He said: “It was a really slow pick up and, on lifting the rod, the fish had weeded me up fairly fast. However, she soon kicked out and did short, powerful runs. I saw it was a big fish when she was close to the net and after some breathtaking moments she was mine at the second attempt.
“My dad was soon down celebrating the special moment. As you can imagine, it was a mind-blowing session.”
Dan fished hinged stiff rigs made with ESP Ghost, Korda Mouth Trap and a size 6 Korda Choddy hook.
