Will Raison’s class shone through during one of the latest event’s that he competed in as he came agonisingly close to putting 100lb of silverfish on the scales.

The Daiwa-backed star drew peg six on the Match Lake at Essex’s Southend Farm as he practiced for the upcoming Fish South Silver Champs final and set his stall out on catching from a number of pole lines.

In the end it was the short line that did the majority of the damage, with dozens of bream and skimmers to 3lb contributing to an impressive 96lb haul that was enough to win the match.

Groundbait laced with micro pellets and dead maggots attracted the fish in, with worm and soft expander hookbaits tempting the bites.

Will wasn’t the only angler to experience the venue’s full potential, with Mark Goddard bagging 70lb for second place.
