10-year-old smashes MBK Leisure match fishing record

The match record for the venue was smashed out of sight in this match by 10-year-old Karter Whittock, a young angler with a fabulous reputation on the lakes with plenty of match wins under his belt in junior competitions.

This victory will probably be one that lives longest in the memory, though as he bagged 125-12-0 in just three hours fishing – and it could have been a whole lot more!

That was because he lost 21 carp, flirting with danger as he fished peg 14 on Pond 4 close to marginal lily pads with pole and double red maggot, feeding heavily with maggot, corn and pellet to successfully net 42 fish to a 9lb best and win his 9-12 year old age group at a canter from Paul Higgs on 39-8-0.

Such was his performance that it prompted watching Tight Lines man Nigel Botherway to suggest the young gun could be a future William Raison! The weight beat old bests of 92-15-0 and 116-0-0, which was a five hour best and earned Karter, son of fishery boss Kenny, a dunking in the pond after the match Fish O’Mania style.

Elsewhere on the match Alex King picked up the 13 – 16 year old win with 62-0-0 while Martin Spiers was top scorer in the under 9s with 19-2-0.
