One of the biggest sports channels on television has announced the launch date of a host of new angling programmes following the success of the first series of The Fishing TV Show.
Broadcasting giant BT Sport this week revealed that over 200,000 viewers tuned in to the first eight-part series that was co-hosted by legendary carp angler Ian ‘Chilly’ Chillcott and top fly fisherman Rae Borras.
Due to the success of the show - which covered all disciplines of the sport and included guests such as Chris Yates and Des Taylor who helped the show achieve peak viewing figures of over 50,000 - channel chiefs have announced that the second series will air on BT Sport 2 on Thursday, January 8.
“I was blown away by the viewing figures - I knew the show would be popular, but never expected an overwhelming response like this,” Ian Chillcot told Angling Times.
“We have a passionate and dedicated team working on the show and the guests that we’ve had on each episode have played a massive part in its success.”
He added: “Fishing has given me so much and this gives me the opportunity to put something back - I can’t wait for the second series to hit the screen now.”
The new series will consist of eight action-packed shows that will see ‘Chilly’ and Rae fish for pike on the famous Wraysbury complex, chase huge carp with top carper Jerry Hammond and join specialist Duncan Charman in search of specimen roach.
“We have been delighted with the response from the angling public to the new show,” said Richard Lisney, Fishing TV’s marketing director.
“Everyone is really looking forward to attracting an even bigger audience for the second series.”
