Dressing up for a good cause

Minions, Oompa Loompas and the ‘118 118’ men were just a few of the characters on show during a special fancy dress match to raise money for charity.

Good-humoured members of Derbyshire’s Earl of Harrington’s AC turned out at the club’s Allestree Park Lake in all sorts of weird and wonderful costumes, and their efforts helped raise over £1,000 towards sending underprivileged children on holiday.

Large crowds gathered behind each of the competitors to marvel at the unusual event, but that didn’t detract from the fishing side of things.

Winner Wesley Shaw – who dressed up as Luigi from the Mario Brothers – banked a pair of double-figure carp for a total of 26lb 12oz.

Club treasurer Teresa Parr donned a Mr Potato Head suit and was delighted by the response.

She said: “We wanted to do something totally different to help local causes and the day went down a treat. Everyone had a fantastic time. We will definitely be running the competition again next year.”
