The decision to adopt a roving approach proved to be the right one for youngster Thomas Finney after he slipped the net under this 15lb 8oz barbel.
The huge fish comes off the back of a great season so far for the Bedfordshire based specimen angler who also landed a 6lb 8oz chub from the same stretch of local river less than a week ago. The 23-year-old said: “I decided to walk the river as it was low, weedy and clear and it wasn’t until I got to my third swim, where I lowered a chunk of ledgered spam into the margins, when my rod wrapped round and the battle commenced.”
The fish is Thomas’ fifth double-figure barbel of what has been a blistering campaign. His set-up included a 1.75lb Fox Warrior Rod with 12lb mainline and a size 6 Drennan Barbel hook.
