Things couldn’t have gone better for Mark McKenna during a session filming footage for Baitcraft TV when he landed this 45lb 14oz mirror from Grenville Lake in Cambridgeshire.
Despite temperatures dropping to minus five, his session got off to a flying start with a brace of thirties on the first night from a spot at 90yds which had been prebaited with Baitcraft Super K boilies and pellets.
The all-important bite came a couple of days later following a drop in air pressure. “I’d text the lake owner, Paul, to say it looked good for a whacker,” said Mark. “At first light the next morning a slow steady take saw me hit into the proverbial sandbag. After 10 minutes or so a huge two-tone mirror came into view deep down in the margin to my right and it wasn’t long before I had it heading into the net.”
“On the scales it weighed just 7oz short of the lake record. We’d set out to catch a whacker and that’s exactly what we did – I love it when a plan comes together!”
