A change of stretch proved a productive move for Alan Ibbotson, who last week landed this 18lb 4oz barbel from the River Trent.

Alan headed to an area he knew had good form for the species and, just 10 minutes after starting, landed a low ‘double’.

Soon after that he received a massive drop-back bite and hooked a fish that put up a powerful fight... making Alan wonder if he’d hooked a carp!

A 20mm boilie fished on a simple hair rig proved the downfall of the huge fish.
