With mild weather forecast, Dean Macey was torn between travelling to the Trent for barbel or staying local and going for bream. He decided on the latter, and was pleased he did after landing this 16lb 4oz slab!

Arriving at the lake to find the water was the colour of coffee after the nearby river breached its banks, Dean fed 10 Spombs of corn, pellets and chopped boilies, then cast two rods over the top with 12mm wafter hookbaits.

Following an early run of tench to 7lb, he introduced a bit more bait and managed a bream of around 10lb.

He reckoned enough feed remained on the spot for one more bite, and a few hours later it duly arrived from the impressive two-tone fish, which he said ‘got bigger and bigger’ as it neared the bank.
