Fishing is often a family thing and there's one UK family that's certainly on cloud nine right now, with father and son both smashing their PB's with giant carp at home and abroad.

Kicking off a phenomenal week for the Galton family was 28-year-old Jason (Instagram: Carps'N Beards), who caught the awesome 'Grumpy' from Berners Hall Res at a huge 52lb 6oz.

Settling into swim 7 for a 48-hour session with three friends on the Essex day-ticket venue, Jason deposited 5-6 Spombs of Nash Candy Nut, Pineapple and Mainline Cell boilies soaked in Goo and Smart Liquid, before casting two Spinner rigs over the top.

Without a single indication on the alarms through the night, his left-hander suddenly tore off at 7am the next morning...

"The fish kited to the right of my swim and luckily made its way to the surface quite far out, keeping it clear of any weed," he told us.

"I was in full concentration knowing that there are many big fish in the lake that could beat my 30lb 5oz best."

After a short battle, the fish was in the net, with Jason convinced he had caught a 30lber, until his friend said, "that's not a thirty mate."

"Lifting it on the scales and seeing them flying past the 50lb mark was a great feeling," Jason said.

"I was completely buzzing and was just amazing to think I'd caught the only 50lb-plus carp in the lake.

"It is a dream capture and one I will always remember, so massive thanks to the lads Chaz, Paul and Shane for helping me out with the pictures."

His session wasn't done there either, finishing the trip with a lovely 27lb linear the following morning.

And that's where the story should have ended, but incredibly, Jason's dad Barrie Galton had an encounter with his own monster carp just a few days later.

Fishing a holiday and photography trip with well-known big carper Pete Castle at Italy's Parco Del Brenta, the 62-year-old landed the biggest carp in the venue, a massive 87lb 6oz common known as 'Turtle'.

Positioned in swim 9 on the popular venue, with his friend Jimmy, Barrie landed a total of nine fish during the week, including the giant common and seven different forties.

"After putting a fish back early Thursday morning, I was sat watching the sunrise and having a coffee when two beeps occurred on my left rod," he told us.

"Noticing the rod tip bend round, I picked up into it and had no idea what I was attached to, as it stayed deep in around 26ft of water.

"Jimmy netted it for me and said, 'that's a big fish Barrie.'

"We were thinking it may break the 70lb mark, but to see it fly past 70 to 80lb was quite the surreal moment and I couldn't quite believe what had happened.

"Many of the other anglers came round to celebrate and throw buckets of water over me, it was a great feeling and an amazing experience.

"To share the moment with people who have the same love of carp fishing and to be able to catch the carp of a lifetime is a memory that will live forever."

The enormous Italian common took a dumbbell wafter inside a solid bag presented over a bed of pellet and boilies, and was tamed on Free Spirit rods and Shimano reels with a 20lb mainline.

The next family get together should be fun, with plenty to talk about, how will the pair top that?
