Angler banks enormous barbel and chunky carp from flooded River Thames

Floodwater can make fishing very challenging and potentially dangerous. But if you know your local river well, it can be a great time to catch a specimen fish, in particular, barbel.

That's exactly what John Flynn did on a recent trip to the River Thames, where he landed this enormous 18lb barbel and a 25lb carp in the same session!

They were both caught on boilie hookbaits and gave epic fights in the high water conditions.

“Because the river was in flood, I was fishing a slack area. The barbel fought like a steam train, using the extra water and submerged trees and bushes to its full advantage.

“What a session on good Old Father Thames!”
