Forest Lane Fishery is still producing some enormous weights despite the colder weather, with The prolific Vale Lake hosting the most recent open match, which was won by Connor Hodges with a 615lb catch of mainly carp and barbel.

The 22-year-old fished short on the pole with meat and pellets, using around 9 tins and catching roughly 120lb an hour to reach the winning weight.

"I didn't know much about the lake, but after drawing my peg, I was told it was a good area and that I should get a few bites" he said.

"I had a really good start fishing the short pole and that was the way my match played out. The line just got stronger as the day went on, I alternated between shallow and on the deck depending on what the fish were doing."

"It was an incredible day of fishing, which also saw me break my PB and pick up the Golden Peg too."

Connor wasn't the only competitor to record a huge match weight, with another five anglers netting over 300lb each on the day. Despite this, he was far clear of the opposition, which sees him qualify for the Innit-To-Win-It final in the new year.
