Fog didn’t deter Steve Gibbons on a recent roach fishing trip, when he landed this long 3lb 8dr specimen.

He was fishing a Norfolk stillwater, where he went down the fishmeal baits route, using a 12mm boilie hookbait.

It’s a proven winner for big redfins on venues that see lots of carp anglers’ baits, and Steve fished it on a helicopter rig incorporating a groundbait feeder over an area where he’d fed a kilo of boilies, plus pellets, to match the flavour of his hookbait.

Once hooked, the fish put up a dogged fight, going on a handful of runs at the net, but his soft 1lb test curve rod did its job and Steve slipped the mesh under what he describes as an ‘unbelievable’ fish.
