For 12 days over the festive period, anyone holding a valid rod licence can take a pal or family member fishing at no extra cost.

The popular Take a Friend Fishing (TAFF) campaign is returning between Friday 22 December and Tuesday 2 January, under which current permit holders can apply for a free one-day permit enabling them to take someone they know for a day on the bank.

The initiative is a collaboration between the EA and the Angling Trades Association. Andrew Race, chairman of the latter, is delighted it’s returning.

“The TAFF23 campaign has been a great success and we wanted to reward registrants with another opportunity to go fishing over the festive period,” he told Angling Times.

“TAFF is capable of making such a huge difference, not only to the long-term development of angling recruitment, but also to people’s individual lives.”
