Spectacular river roach landed on maggot and bread combo

A visit to the Hampshire Avon paid off in style for Gwyn Davies, who tempted this roach weighing 3lb exactly.

The specimen was tamed on a 17ft rod, which helped Gwyn control the beefy 8g Avon float he was using.

His hookbait was a bunch of maggots on a size 14 hook which, rather than fishing over matching feed, he instead presented over liquidised bread mixed with hempseed.

He fed this regularly in small balls to prime the swim.
