Lewis Mahoney has been putting the short windows of angling opportunity at his disposal to great effect on the River Lea – this 16lb specimen came just a few weeks after he landed another cracker weighing 15lb 11oz.

Both fish were taken on pellet hookbaits, loosefeeding a small amount of the same over over the top. Lewis began getting tentative knocks on the tip just as the light was fading, so he knew there was fish in the swim, and the rod flew round just after dark.

After he connected, the fish plodded upstream and buried itself in streamer weed several times before Lewis was able to slip the net under it.
