'Rare' Severn chub is a real giant

The Severn is best known for its barbel, but there are a few clonking chub kicking about too, as Roger Carswell proved with this 7lb 10oz fish!

After experiencing mixed results lately, Roger arrived at the river with little enthusiasm. He expected sport to be hard, and was proved right after only managing a few small barbel on pellets and boilies. But a change to a double lobworm hookbait signalled an upturn in his fortunes.

Chucking downstream, close to the bank, it wasn’t long before he had a few delicate indications on the tip – which he knew were from an investigative chub – before he then had a positive pull round.

The chub weighed in at 7lb 10oz, and Roger ‘felt honoured’ to land such a rare fish from the river.
