Mullet angler catches pair of 'sea carp' from local harbour

When Dorset angler Paul Potter set out to target mullet in Christchurch Harbour, the last thing he was expecting to land was this pair of 20lb carp!

He’d fed a mixture of Klips micro pellet and bread crumb and used two small cubes of bread as his hookbait.

When he had a bite, Paul hoped it was from the thin-lipped mullet he was after, but it turned out to be a stunning 20lb common carp, which was soon followed by a 22lb ghostie.

“Both fish looked like they’d never seen a hook before and put up a hell of a scrap on my light tackle,” he told us.

Often nomadic river carp are well known to venture into tidal stretches and can tolerate the higher salt levels found in brackish water, but catching them is a rarity in these environments.
