When targeting large, highly-pressured perch on big reservoirs, many anglers report that making the most of short feeding windows has been critical to success.
On a recent trip to one such water, Ryan Hayden certainly did that when he landed this fish of 5lb 1oz alongside others of 4lb 3oz and 3lb 11oz, all in the space of just 30 minutes. Having arrived at the water early to reach the hotspot before other anglers, Ryan located the fish and could see they were active, which gave him hope of receiving a few bites.
For the first hour of the session, he caught nothing at all, but eventually the fish switched into feeding mode, and in a memorable half-hour spell he landed the trio of huge fish.
And, true to form, after that, he didn’t have another bite! While it’s hard to be sure on why the fish suddenly switch on, Ryan believes it could be down to light levels at certain periods of the day.
