Massive River Lea barbel says ‘yes cheese’ before testing tackle to the limit

A cheesy garlic pellet was all it took to tempt one of the biggest barbel reported this season, – this 19lb 8oz fish from the River Lea.

Jamie Dipple, who was fishing with his dad, has caught plenty of barbel from the River Wye in the past.

But this specimen was in a totally different league altogether, and put up a great fight for nearly 10 minutes, despite Jamie using a beefy a 2.5lb test curve barbel rod paired with stout end tackle.
