We live in an unprecedented era of monster UK fish, with specimens over 100lb a viable target in waters up and down the land.

This 130lb sturgeon, landed by from New Celtic Lakes in Lampeter, Wales, is certainly one of the largest on our shores. It was caught by Herefordshire angler Paul Webb.

“It was definitely worth the two freezing nights I spent on the bank!” he told us.

“I had it on a 15mm wafter my first visit to the fishery. After hooking the beast, a 30-minute tug of war ensued, which I’m pleased to say I won.

“I know this beauty has a bigger sister, but now I’m wondering if anyone knows of a bigger freshwater fish in our waters?”
