Huge barbel landed after 240-mile round trip

One of the golden rules of specimen fishing is to spend time on venues where your target fish reside, and that can sometimes mean making long journeys.

Stockton-on-Tees angler Danny Hewitt had to do just that to reach the River Trent, with the 240-mile round trip it entailed, but he was rewarded with this 17lb 9oz barbel, which eclipsed his previous 16lb 11oz personal best and fell to a halibut pellet hookbaitfished on a running leger rig.

On this particular trip, Danny's wife asked if she could accompany him and, based on the results of his session, he says he might well be taking her along again.
