Every year, anglers from the UK travel to France to enjoy a holiday carp fishing trip, but very few return home banking fish that make them forget about the carp altogether. However, this is exactly what Karl McArdle experienced on his latest trip to the continent, having banked a colossal rudd weighing in at a staggering 4lb 2oz.
“I’ve just returned from a trip to the Jurassik Carpe complex in France where, alongside landing carp to 46lb, I also managed this 4lb 2oz rudd."
“You’re allowed to use four rods, so I rigged my fourth with a scaled-down multi rig and used a 12mm pop-up hookbait over 12mm boilie feed, hoping for tench."
“I caught loads of them. They averaged around the 6lb mark but, when I had a more delicate bite, I lifted into something that felt a little different.
“As it neared the bank and I saw its flank, I wondered if it was a small bream, but not long after I slipped the net under this huge rudd. It overshadowed the carp!”
