British Record barbel provisionally accepted

James Crosby’s massive 22lb 1oz barbel has been ‘provisionally accepted’ by the British Record Fish Committee (BRFC) ahead of formal ratification at its next meeting in June.

The fish was landed last autumn, eclipsing Colin Smithson’s previous record of 21lb 2oz in the process.

But after James’ scales were tested, the record weight has been knocked down an ounce to 22lb.
It was the same situation when Dai Gribble landed his ‘record-equalling roach’ last spring. That fish was also knocked down an ounce to 4lb 3oz.

In the event of the capture of a potential record fish, the angler should contact the BRFC without delay. To do so, call 01568 620447 or email brfc@anglingtrust.net
