One of the greatest commercial match anglers ever showed once again why he is showered with such praise, when he won a two-day festival at a fishery he’d never visited before.

Maver Match This champion Andy Bennett made the long journey from his home in Manchester to Essex’s Puddledock Farm to compete in the tournament.

A host of elite anglers including Pemb Wrighting and Robbie Taylor were set to put up some stiff competition, but Andy took control from the word go from peg 59 on the Snake Lake, bagging 292lb 4oz from various pole lines.

With the festival decided on weight, he was fully aware that a similar performance would be required on day two and he remained in peak form as he bagged 206lb 12oz from peg 16.

That gave him a 499lb total that turned out to be good enough to top the table. He didn’t have it all his own way though, with plenty of contenders threatening to ruin his party. Second placed Mark Brown finished with 471lb 4oz, while third placed Robbie Taylor weighed in 450lb 2oz overall.
