An angling club that has run a hugely successful junior section for over 75 years has been forced to shut it down due to current legislation.

Worcestershire’s Evesham DAA have been responsible for introducing thousands of youngsters to the sport, with their junior and intermediate clubs kicking off their success back in 1947.

To stay in line with the law, the club would have needed to install a welfare officer, and despite their best efforts to find someone suitable to take up the role, nobody has come forward.

That has led to the club revealing the section will cease at the end of the season and commenting on their Facebook post that broke the news, the club said: “We have had a junior section since the inception of the association way back in 1947, but we recognise the importance and responsibilities of such a role and that it is not for the faint hearted.”
