Many anglers go fishing to celebrate their birthday, but few will have had as good a result as Chris Carson recently did on his 81st, when he landed this 10lb 2oz tench!

He was targeting carp on a private stillwater with his nephew, Gareth Rees, when the specimen tinca picked up his popped-up artificial corn hookbait.

“My uncle is a quiet man who doesn’t show off, or show his emotions a lot, but he did have a big smile on his face after landing this tench,” Gareth told us.

“That night, he enjoyed a large Scotch to celebrate his catch.

“My uncle Chris can still cast to 33-wraps – well over 100 yards - with his carp rods,” Gareth added.

“Not bad for 81! I love him to bits.”
