Ancient bream banked from low stock lake

There are times in our fishing when we bank fish that look incredibly old, which often make you wonder just how old they really are and what they have been through to get to that stage. James Champkin banked this big bream on a recent session that looked as though it had been in there since the lake was created!

“On a trip to a gravel pit in Essex I landed this ancient-looking bream of 15lb 11oz," James told us.

“It was almost jet-black, and only a small number of them remain in this lake. I’ve caught three in two years of fishing for them. It’s a privilege to see these creatures on the bank."

“I was targeting a shallow gravel bar at 70 yards, baited with pellets, maggots, casters and chopped worms. A fake sweetcorn hookbait presented on a lead clip set-up produced the bite.”

THE BEST SPECIMEN RODS ARE PERFECT FOR CATCHING BIG FISH LIKE THIS BREAM.
