Hybrid and method feeders are great for delivering a small parcel of bait when using rod and line tactics, but they do have their limitations.

Micro pellets and groundbait are the only baits that can be easily moulded to the frame, so another approach must be used when different offerings need to be fed with accuracy.

Combining the bomb with a PVA bag is the ideal alternative, giving you the choice of feeding neat piles of hard pellets, corn, or even crushed boilies.

It’s an approach that works wonders on heavily-fished commercials, providing a presentation that’ll help trip up fish that thought they’d seen every trick in the book!

Make identical bags

Making each bag the same size will enable you to get into a routine regarding how much force needs to be applied on each cast to achieve a uniform distance. To do this, fill a medium pole pot with your hard pellets, then pop them into the PVA funnel, using the plunger to compress them down into the mesh.

Try a dip of flavour

A PVA bag will typically melt in less than 30 seconds in warm water. But you can use an oil-based product, such as Dynamite Baits Marine Halibut Liquid, to boost the attraction levels without fear of melting the mesh. Soak your bag in a bait tub briefly before use, and glug it again just before you cast out.

Mirror the method feeder

The short hooklength that’s typically employed alongside a Method feeder is usually replaced by a longer version of 1ft-2ft when bomb fishing. But stick with a 4ins hooklength when using the bomb and your quivertip will detect every single time a carp mouths the hookbait, giving it little chance of escape.

Thread on the bag

Take a gated baiting needle and push it through one end of the PVA bag until it comes out of the other, before attaching the loop of your hooklength to the needle’s hook. It’s then a case of running the bag down the hooklength until it sits on the  top of the hook. The hooklength can then be reattached to the quick-change bead.
