Gurm fooled at 54lb

The Main Lake at Fryerning Fisheries rounded off a fantastic year with a new complex record.

This big mirror, known as the Gurm, has featured frequently in these pages in the last 12 months but just before Christmas it pulled the scales round to a top-weight 54lb at the Essex syndicate water.

Paul Shearer was the successful angler, snaring the fish from the Lodge swim at the shallow end of the 18-acre lake.

The 45-year-old from nearby Canvey Island said: “It’s a new English personal best at 54lb. I’m over the moon! I feel like I'm walking on it!”

Paul, who works as a courier, tripped up the fish on plastic corn.
