Daiwa Airity Pro pole review

What the best pole is, will be a debate that will rage on in angling for as long as they are used. With so many anglers looking for so many different things its hard to conclude which is best, because put simply its down to user preference.

The new Daiwa Airity Pro is hailed by those in the know as a serious big-fish weapon with a tested, tried and trusted history that to this day graces the holdalls of some of the best of that band who push barrows around ponds. So, if you fancy committing a hefty chunk of your hard-earned to an Airity Pro, what are you actually paying for?

For a start, the pole is built using the original Tournament mandrel, as used for all top-end Daiwa models, including the flagship Air Z Pro. That means, if you’re already a Daiwa pole owner, you won’t be having any issues interchanging sections or top kits because everything is generic in terms of size.

But there the similarities end. The new Airity Pro has been re-built from the bottom up, taking into account how, when and where this pole is likely to be used, and what its parameters need to be. It has a sharper response and a better balance than the old Airity. Both are requisite features for targeting big fish using long and/or shallow tactics. It also has power and strength to burn for bagging-up on high catch-rate venues.

The pole comes pre-fitted with a new and improved near-equal length twin-sectioned 2.4m Professional Match Kit which is ideal for silvers, and designed with a pre-bore side puller reinforcement area – but that’s where the silverfish concessions start and end!

Two separate kit packages, both with pre-fitted side puller slots, are available for the new Airity Pro and both packages feature Daiwa’s long-awaited and utterly brilliant new Professional Top Kits, so now commercial fans can choose between More Power or More F1 packages.

All three of the pole’s end sections (12m, 13.6m and 15.2m) can be fitted with the new reversible PHEX911, which has been redesigned to be lighter, aiding balance when shipping over rollers.

Other improvements include the reversible mini extensions, which fit from the fifth to the eighth sections and are ideal for close-range and margin tactics. The fourth section also now benefits from the easy slide ITS taping system that covers the top of the pole, while the infallible Diamond Satin finish is used on the three decorated butt sections.

THE VERDICT

I’m fortunate enough to have fished with the pole a couple of times, and can happily and truthfully report that it is everything and more that Daiwa claims it to be.

The perfect big-fish/commercial pole and whilst I would say it is slightly heavier than its predecessor, the balance has definitely been improved and this makes the pole much more comfortable to use at its longer lengths. The pole has a much improved wall strength and you can certainly feel it in the hands, catching carp upto double figures, the Airity Pro felt like it could handle fish twice the size and still have more to give.

The new range of top kits are a very welcome edition, seeing advancements from other companies with their top kit options, even the most die hard Daiwa fans were calling for more, it was time for Daiwa to pull rank. It was worth the wait as their new professional kits are fantastic.

The professional match kits now have a 4mm diameter tip to accommodate a wider range of elastics and come pre bushed, in an equal sized 2 section, 2.4m kit for ease of storage.

The Professional Commercial kits are built on the same, 2.4m, 2 piece spec kit with a higher grade carbon to make the pole stiffer at longer lengths when using heavier elastics, liken it to a replacement for using match kits for big carp long.

There is also 5.8mm power kit, that has a slower taper. Basically it makes the kit a bit wider through the middle, to vastly improve its strength, making it perfect for catching big fish using big elastics. Again as the other kits, 2.4m 2 piece, all kits are fitted with a nose cone in the No3 and they have a puller bush fitted (except in the match kit).
