The Tackling Minds Ultra Premium Fishing Hoodie not only looks great and is really comfortable to wear, but 100% of all the sales revenue goes directly to the Tackling Minds Charity.

This is a great cause set up by Dave Lyons in 2020, with the goal of getting people from all walks of life interested in fishing. Whether they struggle with mental health, social deprivation, addictions, disabilities, families or long-term health, Tackling Minds aims to introduce them to the peace that fishing can bring.

Best winter match fishing hoodie

If you’re looking to keep warm this winter, the Matrix Sherpa Winter Hoodie is designed for you. The hoodie has incorporated a 100% polyester, thermal sherpa lining, which offers outstanding heat retention to ensure you stay warm and comfortable even on the coldest of days by the bank. The lining is lovely and soft, and is less irritating to the skin, making it great to go on as your first layer after a t-shirt and as it isn’t bulky, a coat can be worn over the top if necessary.

The hoodie itself features a very minimal look which will appeal to anglers outside the match fishing fraternity, with lime green toggles and zippers adding a flash of colour, which we really like. The zipped pockets are also lined with the sherpa material to help keep your hands warm and combined with the elasticated cuffs they stop the chance of any draughts penetrating the garment.

Available in sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL

Pros

  • Really warm hoodie.
  • Not too bulky.

Cons

  • Really only designed for cold weather.

It is also really handy and ideally located when you have chest waders on, as you can easily access your belongings with minimal fuss, meaning no more rooting around trying to find you trouser pockets.

The hoodie is made from high-quality cotton and polyester to provide both comfort and warmth, whilst also remaining robust enough to stand up to the rigours of angling in all weathers. Internally there is a brushed fleece fabric to provide great insulation and keep you enthusiastic in the coldest weather.

Combine that with the thick hood and you have a very warm hoodie indeed.

The snood is adjustable via drawstrings, as is the hood to allow the user to ensure no cold air can infiltrate the hoodie, keeping you as warm as possible, even on the most bitter days. There is a pouch on the front to keep your hands warm which is adjustable via a popper to further eliminate draughts and keep your valuables safe. The final feature is the cuff grip thumb holes that ensure the hoodie can ride up your arms whilst also offering some added protection to your hands.

Warmest match fishing hoodie

The Preston Celcius Zip Hoodie is the newest addition to the long standing and very popular Celcius range, renowned in the match fishing community for keeping anglers warm even on the days you question your own choices on whether you should be fishing or not.

Featuring a dual thermal layer, the hoodie has great insulating properties, which allows you to heat up quickly and then retain that heat as long as possible by trapping warm air against your body. Preston have utilised a large YKK zip to ensure even in the harshest conditions you can still easily operate the zip, these same zips are located on the pockets too, great when you’re hands are really cold and you need to get to your valuables.

As you would expect, both wrists and waistband are elasticated to prevent cold air finding its way into the hoodie, with extra thick draw cords allowing you to adjust the hood should the weather keep getting colder.

Pros

  • Dual thermal layer provides excellent insulation.
  • Oversized zips are easy to use in the cold.

The hoodie can be used as the final layer or as a mid-layer when the weather really deteriorates, it is perfect for those longer winter sessions on the bank as its more than soft enough to sleep in, whilst keeping you really warm. It also helps prevent the cold shock if you get a bite in the night and have to leave your sleeping bag.

The 100% polyester material is renowned for its thermal properties, and you only have to touch the hoodie to realise how comfortable it is.

Available in sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL

Pros

  • Very thick material.
  • Super comfortable.

Cons

  • Will take a while to dry out if it gets wet.

Best match fishing hoodie

You will be hard pushed to find a match venue without seeing multiple Guru Red/Black Hoodies on the bankside, such is their popularity amongst anglers. The company has a great reputation for its quality tackle and its clothing is no different, these hoodies have lots of features and they fit as good if not better than any others on the market.

The hoodies aren’t made for the coldest days but are great for wearing underneath a coat to keep you warm. The cross over front collar helps keep draughts away from your neck and thanks to the soft, plush materials used to manufacture the hoodie, it gives a premium feel to the wearer.

Another clever feature is the ribbed underarm panels, these help the garment stretch when casting, playing or netting fish to reduce the restrictive feeling some hoodies can give you, especially when match fishing. Integrated thumb holes help keep the sleeves from riding up if you’re frequently moving your arms and the large pocket at the front is great for storage. You can also get the hoodie in Navy and Black if the Red is too much for you.

Available in sizes: M, L, XL, XXL

Pros

  • Non restrictive design.
  • Very well fitting hoodie.

Cons

  • Not the best hoodie when its really cold.

Best quality fishing hoodie

There aren’t many fishing hoodies on the market that look as good as the KUMU Rising Sun Hoodie, adorning a Japanese inspired Koi graphic to the rear of the hoodie, it is clear to see why it has become a favourite of many anglers across the UK.

The hoodie doesn’t just look great, however, as it's one of the best quality items we have seen, and it is built to last. The super-soft fabric is amazingly soft and feels incredibly comfortable when you are wearing the hoodie. The fit is also fantastic and almost feels tailor made, it doesn’t feel baggy, nor will it stretch after use.

Quality drawcords with metal rings ensure they won’t snap or degrade easily and there is a snug fitting front pouch to store belongings in. A really quality garment from KUMU that is well worth considering if you’re in the market for a new hoodie.

Available in sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL, 4XL

Pros

  • Quality item, built to last.
  • Fits really well.

Cons

  • The graphics might not be to everyone's taste.

Best summer fishing hoodie

Not all hoodies are designed to keep you warm, as the Daiwa Sun Protect Hoodie proves. Its lightweight build has been manufactured to keep you cool and safe from the intense summer sun. The hoodie uses 48% graphene material to increase thermal conductivity from your skin, allowing you to cool down quicker, it also leaves you with a sense of cooling even when it's really warm.

The material is also UV resistant, giving anglers piece of mind they are protected from the harmful effects when out fishing in intense sunlight. You no longer have to worry about putting suncream on consistently, as the hoodie will block out the majority of the UV rays.

Thumb hole cuffs stop the sleeves riding up, great if you’re constantly casting when lure fishing, and the brushed back fabric is very comfortable as well as being anti-bacterial to prevent sweating and odours building up. There is a pouch pocket for carrying valuables or extra tackle and it is available in a Charcoal Grey and Navy depending on your preference.

Available in sizes: M, L, XL, XXL

Pros

  • Ideal for summer usage.
  • Keeps you safe and protected from the sun.

Cons

  • Limited edition, so grab one early.

Best fitting fishing hoodie

The Korda Kore TK Hoodie Light Kamo is as well designed and as well fitting as anything on the market, if not better. Korda have incorporated their Action Fit to these hoodies, which was previously seen on the originally black TK Hoodie. The hoodies feature a raglan shoulder and a stretchy underarm panel, which vastly increases the flexibility and movement in the most important areas, your arms. So you’ll no longer feel restricted when casting, baiting up or playing fish if you have this hoodie on.

The material used is a 320gsm fleece which is both warm and cosy, making it ideal for longer sessions or those with sensitive skin. The unique crossover fronted hood also keeps the neck protected from draughts and cold winds. The drawcord loops for the hood are integrated into the hood itself to prevent them dangling down when taking a picture of a fish, or getting wet and sticky falling into the spod or spod mix.

Thumb inserts in the sleeves and an oversize front pouch with gadget compartments make for a very stylish, comfortable and functional hoodie.

Available in sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL

Pros

  • Toggles can't fall onto fish during catch shot.
  • Action Fit increases flexibility to the wearer.

Cons

  • The crossover hood can make it a little too warm in mild conditions.

What to look for in a fishing hoodie

Whilst all fishing hoodies may look similar they do vary in certain aspects, especially how they fit, the material they are made from and how warm they will keep you when you're out fishing. The best fishing hoodies will combine everything you need into one quality garment.

If you're choosing a hoodie to insulate you from the cold when fishing in the depths of winter, try choosing substance over style. If the hoodie looks great but you will struggle to stay warm wearing it, it is of little use to you. Alternatively, if the hoodie is for spring and summer fishing, stay away from well insulated versions, as they will be unbearable when it gets really warm.

The fit of the hoodie is important too, if the hoodie is too loose, draughts can get in underneath, but if the hoodie is too tight, it will restrict your movement, will be uncomfortable to fish in and will likely ride up, again causing a draught. Some will prefer a pull over version compared to a zip, with the latter tending to be a slightly looser fitting hoodie.

Frequently asked questions on fishing hoodies

Why do anglers wear hoodies?

A good fishing hoodie will help keep an angler warm or cool (depending on its design) as well as protecting them from bad weather and pests like mosquitoes and midges. The hood adds an extra layer of protection, especially on cold, windy days, by trapping warm air and preventing draughts. Combined with the best winter fishing hats a good hoodie will keep an anglers' head warm all day long.

How should a hoodie fit?

This is all down to user preference and how you intend to wear the hoodie. If the hoodie is likely to be worn on top of other jumpers, then a loose fitting one is best to allow the extra room to accommodate the clothing underneath. If the hoodie is the only layer, then a well fitted hoodie is best. However you choose to wear them, make sure that they aren't too tight and restrictive or so loose that draughts can get in.
