Most anglers catch their biggest chub in winter, but Alfie Naylor landed this remarkable fish of 8lb 4oz during the opening week of the season.

The Daiwa-backed rod was fishing the River Trent, having recently returned from a six-month break from the sport and the fish were certainly waiting for him.

He kicked off his session by introducing 4mm and 8mm pellets via a bait dropper, alongside a generous hit of 15mm boilies soaked in Nutrabaits’ spicy fish protein liquid.

“I started fishing around 6pm, but didn’t have much action until 8.30pm when, suddenly, I had a significant bite from what turned out to be something extraordinary,” said Alfie.

"After a dramatic fight, I scooped the net under a chub, but it wasn't until I peered into the net I could appreciate exactly what was staring back at me, it was enormous."

“I was truly taken aback to catch such a fish at this time of the year, At 8lb oz it's a new personal best which left me feeling both thrilled and emotional.”

Alfie was lost for words when he landed this enormous 8lb 4oz chub.
