Jamie Jones returned from his first-ever trip to Linear Fisheries with far more than he expected – one of the venue’s most sought-after residents to his name.
Having headed down to the popular Oxfordshire complex in the hope of catching his first twenty, the 14-year-old schoolboy from Merseyside headed home with a new personal best of 53lb 12oz, the biggest fish currently living on the day ticket side of the fishery.
Fishing on the 32-acre Brasenose One for a four night session, Jamie fished all three rods at range over an accurately baited clear area. He achieved his initial target with fish of 29lb 8oz and 23lb 8oz before he received another take towards the end of the trip.

Following a powerful fight the lake’s biggest mirror, known as The Beast of Brasenose, was guided into the net.
Jamie’s grandad, Les, told Angling Times: “On the Sunday I got an excited phone call from Jamie to say he had the lake’s biggest carp in his net and he had to go!
“He’s fishing obsessed and talks about it morning, noon and night, so I was delighted for him to have caught such an incredible fish.
“He’s been trying really hard to catch a twenty from some of our local lakes and was really looking forward to going to Linear as he knew he’d have a great chance of catching one there.
“He can’t wait to go back to the fishery again now!” he added.
