(THIS CATCH WAS REPORTED BEFORE THE END OF THE RIVER SEASON ON MARCH 15TH)

After a few twitches on the tip, only to reel in and realise a chub had spat out his cheesepaste hookbait, Buckinghamshire angler Jonathan Pomroy switched to a lighter lead and was rewarded with this 7lb 10oz beauty.

He was fishing on Hertfordshire’s River Colne, and had settled into a swim with a run of far-bank snags.

This fish gave him a positive bite after he’d cast slightly upstream and allowed his hookbait to trickle along the gravel bottom.

The chub held deep in the flow, then made a lunge for the far bank before he steered it to the net.

His set-up comprised6lb mainline and a size 6 hook, around which he slid a piece of cork to help balance his hookbait.
