Bream were the main focus of anglers competing in the latest event at Elsecar Reservoir, but it was a giant carp that helped the winner top the field.

Elsecar Reservoir is well known for its quality bream fishing.

Venue regular Sean Stokes drew peg 20 in the fourth round of the winter league at the South Yorkshire fishery and worked with a cage feeder and worm hookbaits.

It was a ploy that proved too irresistible for a double figure common carp that gave Sean several heart stopping moments before eventually squeezing into the landing net.

The surprise big carp was enough to win the match.

It weighed in at 18lb 10oz, with four bream also banked to give him a total of 31lb 5oz.

That lumped proved vital on the day too, with second placed Mick Axon using a Method feeder at 50m from peg 12 for eight slabs that went 20lb 10oz on the scales.
