With temperatures starting to cool, two-time Drennan Cup champ Dai Gribble recently turned his attentions to the bream of Staffordshire’s Cop Mere. There aren’t many in the 42-acre water, but on his first session he landed one of the biggest ever caught from there in the shape of this well- built 16lb 4oz specimen.
With thevenue being very weedy, Dai couldn’t simply rock up and fish, and prior to the session he raked a spot 50 yards out with the help of a boat, as well as prebaiting a few times with a mixture of groundbait, pellets and corn from Sonubaits.
On the night that he got the rods out, Dai landed several tench just before darkness descended, which were then followed by the bream, which fell for a fake corn and caster hookbait.
It put up a decent scrap under the rod tip, and upon lifting the net out, Dai knew he’d landed one of the venue’s largest residents.
