Regardless of your favourite fish or the species you enjoy targeting most, a specimen roach over the 2lb barrier is a picture many anglers long to have in their albums. Due to their ever-increasing rarity and how incredibly tricky these fish can be to catch at times, landing a big roach by design remains one of the greatest challenges in angling.
There aren’t many people as fanatical about roach as Trevor Harrop. Best known for his role in the award-winning Avon Roach Project and various other endeavours, he has helped restore several roach populations to their former glory.

While he excels at breeding roach, he is also remarkably adept at catching them too, but even he couldn't have anticipated the incredible run of sessions he experienced recently, landing 25 roach over the 2lb mark, up to 2lb 15oz, in just six outings. It is some of the finest roach fishing we can recall, almost as if the roach themselves were thanking him for the years of dedication he has given to helping the species.
“I’m traditionally a winter roach angler, so I simply can’t believe the run of luck I’m having. I need to get myself a lottery ticket while it lasts! And, possessing none, I can’t be spouting off a load of watercraft nonsense, so let’s just put it down to my new lucky roach fishing shirt, which I’m never taking off,” Trevor told us.
“I’m fortunate to fish some of the loveliest roachy places in the country, but because of my long history with their recovery, I’ll never take any roach, particularly a rare two-pounder, for granted,” he added.
“I just love ’em and always will—especially now that I don’t have a back garden full of them!”
