On a trip to the River Itchen, Damian Archer enjoyed a remarkable spell of action during which he landed barbel of 16lb 2oz and 12lb exactly in less than an hour’s fishing!
He’d been keeping a close eye on the forecast, and with heavy rain falling, knew that the fish would probably be feeding, so arrived at the river around 3pm, after work.
“Fishing a lump of meat below a large maggot feeder, I had a bite within 30 minutes,” he told us.
“After a great battle, I scooped up a large golden shape that turned out to be a 16lb 2oz barbel!
“While it rested in the net, I called a mate to come down and take some pics. I recast as I waited and, in no time at all, had the second bite!”
