Things were about to get even better though, with his second and last bite of the day ending up with a 3lb 7oz perch going into the net.
It was Darren’s biggest ever perch caught on a lure in the UK, beating his previous best by an ounce.
His successful setup incorporated 12lb Sufix Nanobraid mainline, a 10lb fluorocarbon leader and a new Rapala lure that is set to be released in 2024.
