Patience and pellets key to fooling 3lb roach

Spending time feeding your target fish before trying to catch it can be key to success, as Aaron Marguet proved when he landed this 3lb 4oz roach.

The Kent angler was targeting a stillwater in his home county and, after locating the fish by a fallen willow, he spent time feeding the shoal with pellets, not the usual bait you associate with big roach, but it certainly worked in this instance.

After the fish had gained confidence and began competing for the free offerings, he banded a pellet to the back of a size 14 hook on a waggler rig and flicked his hookbait into position, so that it fell alongside his loosefeed.
