Former Drennan Cup champion Alan Stagg has enjoyed a landmark run of perch lately, landing a four-pounder every week for the past six weeks! But he’s just landed two fish that top the lot.On a visit to a reservoir, where he’s had the majority of his success, he landed perch of 5lb 1oz and 4lb 13oz in consecutive casts – a brace for 9lb 14oz!

The giant stripeys came on the second day of a two-day trip, after Alan located a shoal of big perch with an echo sounder.

“First drop I hooked a huge fish that felt heavy from the off,” he told us. “In the net, it looked a really good one. I unhooked it in the net and, seeing fish still showing on the sounder, I dropped the lure back down.”

No sooner had his Ned rig hit bottom than Alan connected with another fish.

“After another great fight I was gazing into the net at two massive perch,” he continued.

“The first one was the biggest, at 5lb 1oz – my second five-pounder, just 3oz off my personal best.”

The action didn’t end there, as Alan went on to land another two perch over 4lb and three ‘threes’!
