The best thing about fishing when you're young is that everything feels exciting and new. You never really know what to expect, and the enthusiasm is often at its highest, driven by the mystery of what might be lurking in the deep. Anglers often have tales of monster fish and the one that got away, but in this instance, it turned out to be completely true!
Despite being only 12 years old, Eli landed a fish that will be etched in his memory forever, in the shape of this monster pike. The young angler was actually fishing for carp on a large northern reservoir at the time when, as he was reeling in to rebait, a 31lb pike came out of nowhere and smashed into his rig, giving him the shock of his life!

"I was reeling in to check my rig and everything went solid, I thought I’d hooked a log or something on the bottom," Eli told us.
"As I wound down to try and lift it off the bottom, the 'log' started to move and swim away. That’s when I knew it was something big."
"With that, the fish came straight up to the surface and it looked massive. I just remember shaking with excitement, still having no idea what it was!"
